With great pleasure, I welcome you to the website of St Charles’ Catholic Primary School Waverley. Our school is located on Carrington Road in close proximity to the Charing Cross shopping precinct.
St Charles’ is an inclusive school community focussed on the charism of St Francis and St Clare of Assisi. Our goal is to provide our students with a rigorous and engaging child-centred curriculum based on the values of peace, simplicity and courtesy.
St Charles’ School strives to foster giftedness in students and is proud to be recognised as an Australian MENSA School Affiliate. Members of MENSA qualify by having an IQ in the top 2% of the population. The purposes of MENSA are to identify and foster human intelligence for the benefit of humanity and provide a stimulating intellectual and social environment for members and affiliated schools.
As Catholic educators, we work in partnership with parents and carers, members of the St Charles’ Catholic parish and our dedicated teaching staff to nurture student wellbeing and promote positive growth mindsets. We are committed to the academic, artistic, physical, spiritual and social development of every child in every lesson.
The school’s innovative pedagogy encompasses differentiated programs to suit the needs of every learner, challenging enrichment opportunities and a focus on sustainability and environmental awareness.
As principal of St Charles’ Catholic Primary School Waverley, I warmly invite you to visit our school to see first hand our values in action, future-focused learning activities and welcoming school community.
St Charles’ Catholic Primary School Waverley has been educating generations of students since 1854, making our school one of the oldest educational sites in Australia. The Franciscan Friars took charge of the Parish in 1879 and so the Franciscan tradition at St Charles Borromeo School began.
The Poor Clare Sisters began educating the students of St Charles’ in 1879 and remained for the next 112 years. In 2014, the St Charles’ school community of the past and present came together to celebrate 160 years of Catholic education in the Waverley area.
The Franciscan charism and tradition of St Charles’ Catholic Primary School is central to our mission and underpins our three school values of peace, simplicity and courtesy.
Peace is characterised by peace within, peaceful relationships and peace in our environment.
Simplicity is characterised by sustainable practices, an appreciation of simple pleasures and the belief that ‘less is more’.
Courtesy is from a Franciscan perspective, courtesy is characterised by social justice, social harmony, service and authentic relationships.
In keeping with our Franciscan tradition, we believe that:
Our God is good and loving
God’s creation reflects goodness and wholeness
Each person is created in the image of God and deserves dignity and respect
Each person has unique God-given abilities and potential
Differences and diversity among people are honoured.
At St Charles’ Catholic Primary School Waverley we are inspired by the Franciscan values of peace, simplicity and courtesy. Through our challenging and motivating curriculum, we are committed to the academic, artistic, physical, spiritual and social growth and development of every child in every lesson.
Our future-focused approach to learning is highlighted by the emphasis we place on sustainability, environmental awareness and action. Our safe, welcoming and inclusive school community nurtures enquiring minds by developing growth mindsets, embraces family-school-parish partnerships, promotes student wellbeing and lifelong learning, and empowers every child to reach their full potential.
